Chapter 82
Selena had just gotten up. It was merely 4:00 aan., and she had not freshened up when the police arrived.
After sending the police away, Selena stood in the living room, her hair disheveled. Looking at the document in
her hand. she trembled with rage. Hailey actually dared to sue me! she thought.
“What's going on?” Rose took the document and examined it. The lawsuit was not filed under Hailey’s nbut
under the nof the official stuof the “River.”
Not many people knew that Hailey was behind “River,” but a select few, including Selena, were aware. Rose’s
expression turned complicated as she finished examining the document. “Selena, what's happening? There have
been claims online that you are “River, but now with this lawsuit... what's really going on?” she asked.
She knew her daughter well. Selena must have snatched that prestigious title of an online literature master from
someone else. She did not care how and from where Selena had snatched it, but she only wanted her daughter
to clean up the mess.
Selena’s face turned ashen. “Mom, don’t worry about this. I'll handle it,” she said.
Rose had no desire to meddle in the matter. She was recently busy dealing with her husband's affair. She only
warned Selena in a low voice, “Just don’t let your father discover it.”
Aiden had long been displeased with her and Selena. Moreover, he now had a new lover outside. If Selena
caused trouble for the Dalton family and embarrassed Aiden, he might chase them out of the family.
Selena merely hummed in response and went upstairs with the document. She locked herself in her room and
called Alice. However, Alice did not answer, so she called Jeanie instead.
Jeanie had spent the previous night at a bar. Ever since Hailey had ruined her, Jeanie’s status in the
entertainment industry had plummeted, and she had not had any acting roles recently.

However, she did not mind enjoying a carefree life, frequenting bars and high-end venues. She lived an
incredibly comfortable life.
“What's the matter?” Jeanie answered groggily, clearly annoyed at being woken up.
“Jeanie, Hailey really sued me! What should | do now? Should we hold a press conference as soon as possible?”
Selena asked. The longer the delay, the more anxious Selena became.
Jeanie sneered and said, “What are you so scared of? You have everything while she has none. She's just a paper
tiger. Why are you panicking?” Despite Jeanie’s words, Selena was still nervous, feeling like a thief caught red-
handed.
“What if she still has manuscripts in her hands? What if Suzanne tricks us and has never actually agreed to work
with us?” Selena said. The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she became.
She felt like she was on a sinking ship. If things were exposed, her reputation would be utterly ruined. Hailey
would never let her go.
“We've already assigned someone to monitor Suzanne. If she betrays us, my sister won't hesitate to take action.
Even if Hailey does possess the manuscripts, so do you. If she reveals you as a fraud, you can turn it around and
accuse her of stealing your manuscripts out of jealousy,” Jeanie said.
“That's right!” Selena felt-relieved and said. “How c| didn’t think of that?” Jeanie snorted coldly and hung
up.
Taking a deep breath, Selena forced herself to calm down. As long as Alice ensured he was under control,
everything would be fine. She had already bribed the website. She had the manuscripts. Once the press
conference was successfully held, the title of “online literature master” would be hers.

He paused before continuing. “Yes, it’s true. Everyone was in an uproar, and noise erupted in the room. The
flashing of cameras was blinding.
Selena sat composedly on stage, unfazed, with a faint smile. Today, she had opted for a literary, elegant look.
She was dressed in a light-colored dress and appeared graceful and refined. At a glance, she looked the part.
Leon invited a guest onstage. The man was slightly overweight, had a round face, and possessed an affable
appearance. However, his sharp eyes revealed his shrewd, businessman-like nature.
“Hello, everyone. I'm the owner of Mythos Ink. My nis Wayne Williams. You can search foron goggles,

The reporters frantically strapped photos, Selena remained poised and silent, her expression composed. “Now,
let's invite all of “River” editors on stage. Leon announced.
Two women stepped up from the first row and introduced themselves. They were editors from Mythos Ink. One
was named Dolly, the other Bonnie. Both had legitimate employment records that could not be faked.
They had worked with “River” early on, though they did not stay on long due to job transfers and personal
reasons. However, they both claimed to have seen “River” real identification documents and confirmed that she
was indeed Selena.
“But just having these testimonies might not be sufficient,” Leon continued with a smile. There is someone
whose word | believe will be more convincing. The audience held their breath. “Any true fan of River’ should be
familiar with the nSuzanne, Leon continued.
“I know her!” There were many loyal fans at the meet-and-greet. A young man in his twenties stood up excitedly
and said, “Suzanne is ‘River” current stumanager and exclusive editor! She handles all of the copyright of
River and is her most trusted business partner!”
“That's right,” Leon nodded and said. “Now, let's welcMs. Suzanne Heywood to the stage.”
“River” had never appeared in public, with Suzanne handling all external affairs. The fans knew Suzanne well, so
if Suzanne could confirm Selena’s identity, there would be no doubt about it.
Suzanne walked onto the stage in a black-and-white suit, exuding an air of intelligence and elegance.
Meanwhile, Alice and Jeanie were in a secluded corner upstairs watching the press conference unfold.
