Chapter 15 Begging for Divorce At the dining table, Mason shot Emily a smile, noticing she looked a bit thinner since the last the saw her.

"Emily, have you lost weight? Is Michael giving you a hard tagain?" Mason asked, frowning.

Before Emily could answer, Scarlett chimed in, "With you around, who could possibly bully her?" She gave Emily a sarcastic glance.

Scarlett, despite being over fifty, looked like she was in her forties thanks to sserious upkeep. Like most rich ladies, she wasn't a fan of daughters-in-law from less wealthy backgrounds. Her disdain for Emily was pretty clear; she was cunning but not exactly bright.

"Did I ask you? Why are you butting in?" Mason snapped at Scarlett.

Scarlett, scolded by Mason, reluctantly shut her mouth.

"Grandpa, I think I've actually gained weight," Emily said, trying to lighten the mood.

Mason smiled again. "Eat up, you shouldn't always be dieting," he said, piling sof her favorite food onto her plate.

"Grandpa, you're so biased. You've never servedfood before," ca voice before the person even appeared. Emily knew it was Michael's sister, Veda Smith.

Mason's face darkened as Veda in leather clothes, with colorful dyed hair and heavy makeup, walked in.

"Look at yourself! What's with your hair?" Mason was so mad at his rebellious granddaughter he nearly blew a gasket.

Veda ignored Mason, pulled out the chair next to Emily, and sat down. "Oh, Emily, finally showing your face?" Veda, around eighteen, was in her prrebellious phase in the Smith family.

"Veda Smith," Emily greeted her, unsure of what else to say.

Veda ignored her and started eating like she hadn't had a meal in days.

Mason, furious, threw down his knife and fork and glared at Scarlett. "Is this the daughter you raised? No manners at all. What a disgrace." He stormed off from the table.

Scarlett, seeing Veda still eating and herself getting scolded, shot Emily a hateful look.

Emily felt wronged. 'Why glare at me? You should glare at Veda.' Of course, she only dared to think it.

"Enough, don't be so rude at the table. Didn't you hear what your grandpa just said? What's with your outfit and hair?" Scarlett, finding Emily silent, turned to question Veda.

Veda, finally full, looked up at Scarlett and smiled mischievously. "I just cfrom a comic convention. You mean my hair?" She pulled at her hair, and the colorful wig coff, which she tossed on the table. "Fake, don't freak out." Emily looked at Veda, finding her whimsically cute.

Scarlett was livid. "Go change, or do you want to get punished by your grandpa?" Veda laughed indifferently. "Grandpa is so old-fashioned." Then she looked at Emily, who had been trying to stay invisible.

"Do you know how to remove makeup?" Her tone was neither friendly nor hostile.

Before Emily could figure out what she meant, Veda grabbed her and walked out. When they reached the corridor, Emily shook off Veda's hand.

"What are you doing?" Emily eyed Veda warily.

Veda leaned against the carved column, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "Can't you see I'm helping you? Or do you want to stay there and get nagged by my mom?" Emily wasn't buying it. She knew Veda had disliked her from the moment she married Michael. Veda had always made things tough for her, probably because she was obsessed with Michael.

Emily didn't think much of Veda either, seeing her as just a spoiled, rebellious brat.

"Thanks," Emily said flatly and turned to leave, but Veda blocked her path.

"When are you going to divorce Michael?" Veda asked, not treating Emily like a sister-in-law at all.

Emily's face darkened. "What? Do you want to marry Michael?" In the past, she could tolerate the Smith family's antics, but now that she and Michael were getting divorced, she saw no reason to hold back.

Sure enough, Veda reacted like a cat whose fur had been ruffled. "Nonsense, what are you talking about? Do you believe I'll tear your mouth apart?" Emily took a step back, crossed her arms, and looked at her coldly. "Didn't you start talking nonsense first?"
