Nadine's response only deepened the shadows on Brad's already dark expression. Her response not only answered Zara's question but also indirectly cleared up Brad's confusion.
Since they were already divorced, why would they get back together? If they were just going to get back together, their divorce would not have happened in the first place.
Besides, Nadine felt that her life had been much better and more fulfilling since leaving that miserable marriage. Why would she willingly walk back into that swamp? Six years had been more than enough to show her how utterly broken their marriage was.

Brad flicked his lighter, and a small flflickered to life. The flilluminated the man's dark face and revealed a cold, menacing glint in his eyes. He was very displeased with Nadine's answer, yet he didn't know how to handle the situation with her.
When Zara popped the question, he had been eager-perhaps even hopeful-to hear Nadine's response. But now that he had, the hope he'd held onto was crushed in an instant.
Initially, when Nadine had asked for a divorce, he thought it was just a way to get his attention, dismissing her actions as childish. Later, when he realized she'd been using him as a substitute for Jack, he felt disappointed and eventually agreed to the divorce.
He'd assumed that without him, her perfect substitute, Nadine would be devastated and ccrawling back. But that didn't happen. Instead, she'd walked away without a backward glance, her hair fluttering in the wind like nothing had happened.
Now that Zara had painted his intentions so clearly, he couldn't believe Nadine had the audacity to reject him. She simply didn't know what was good for her.
Brad stared at the flon the lighter, suppressing his anger. After a while, he looked at Nadine and asked, "Is being in a relationship really going to mess with your fer.n studies? I seem to remember plenty of couples from school who managed to date and stilbimprove their grades. "So, by your logic, you can't study if you're in a relationship? What kind of twisted logic is that?" His tone was scathing, dripping with sarcasm.
Seraphina knew him well enough to know that he was upset. She smiled at him and said, "Oh, con, Brad! Chill out! Nadine's just really focused on her studies right now. She's got her priorities straight. I finally found a great student, so don't you dare scare her away!" She continued, "You can pursue Nadine romantically if you want, but you'll have to wait until she's done in the next three months. Until then, I'm not letting her go!"

Nadine had said her piece and had no intention of humoring him further. Thus, she didn't even spare him a glance. No matter what Brad did, she would never remarry him.
Noticing the tension in the air, Zara burst into a few nervous laughs, "Oh m dear, I always manage to say the NO wrong thing at the worst possible time. My bad! This is all my fault. I shouldn't have brought it up!
"I'm really sorry, Mr. Hamilton. I didn't mean to upset you. I'll punish myself by taking three shots!" With that, sheordered a bottle of vodka and downed three shots in quick succession. "I'm sorry, Mr. O Hamilton."
