Chapter 233 Suzanne raised an eyebrow when she saw the caller ID-Shane. Letting out a slow breath, she leaned back against the driver's seat and picked up the call.

Before she could even speak, Shane's voice cthrough. "The Lloyds have been houndingfor days. They're offering a fortune for you to treat Todd. What do you think?" Suzanne paused. It made sense that they'd reach out to Jane. After all, the women Austin had brought in weren't exactly ordinary.

A cold glint flickered in Suzanne's eyes. Without hesitation, she replied, "I'll take the job." Shane, who had been ready to rant about the Lloyds, choked on his words. He shot up from his office chair, his voice rising. "Are you serious? Are you actually considering working with them? After everything they've done to you?" He knew exactly how badly the Lloyds had treated Suzanne. Helping them now made no sense. If anything, he had expected her to kick them while they were down, not lift a finger to help.

Shane was fuming, but Suzanne remained calm. She noticed a stray dog crossing the road ahead and gently eased her foot onto the brake, slowing down. "Why wouldn't I take it? They're offering a fortune. And just because I'm taking the job doesn't mean I'm going to make things easy for him." Did someone like Todd deserve a painless recovery? Not a chance.

Shane froze, his sharp features suddenly sparking with interest. He had known Suzanne for years. On the surface, she was composed and cold. But she never held back when she decided to get even with someone. Leaning back into his chair, he smirked. "Alright... What's the plan?" Once the stray dog safely crossed the road, Suzanne accelerated again. A faint smile played on her lips. "You'll find out in three days." Shane, who had been brimming with curiosity, instantly deflated. He slumped back into his chair, propping his feet up on the desk. "Ugh, why are you so tic? Just tellnow." She had his full attention now, and the wait was going to kill him. Still, whatever she had in store, he was looking forward to it.

After hanging up, Suzanne's expression darkened slightly. It was tto settle the unfinished business between her and Todd.

Cheryl sat on the cold floor in the hospital hallway, staring at her phone long after the call had ended.

Suddenly, she raised her hand and slapped herself across the face. The sharp sound echoed through the quiet hallway. The sting on her cheeks was nothing compared to the pain in her heart.

Guilt, regret, and sorrow crashed over her like a tidal wave, threatening to drown her.

Just then, a nurse in a white coat approached, holding a bill. She stopped in front of Cheryl and handed it to her, her voice tinged with sympathy. "Ms. Surrey, you'll need to settle this at the front desk. The account is overdue."

The nurse had seen Cheryl's struggles. Jenny's medical bills had been piling up for months, and there was only so much Cheryl could do on her own.

Cheryl forced herself to stand, her legs numb. She leaned against the wall for support and took the bill with trembling hands. Her voice was barely a whisper, choked with tears. "Thank you." The nurse gave her a pitying look but said nothing more before walking away.

Cheryl stared at the bill in her hands, tears streaming down her face. What was she going to do? If she couldn't pay, Jenny's treatment would stop. Cheryl covered her mouth, trying to stifle her sobs. Just then, a faint cough cfrom inside the hospital room. It was Jenny.

Cheryl stepped closer to the door, her vision blurred with tears. She stared at Jenny's pale, fragile figure lying in the hospital bed.
